In today’s fashion week inspiration, we’re looking at Thakoon.
There were so many amazing shows today… Prabal Gurung, Alexander Wang, Victoria Beckham, but my favorite of the day was Thakoon.
I am hoping one trademark element of the Thakoon show turns out be a major trend: experiments in texture that stay neutral in hue. Metallics, lace, leather, and silk stay wearable in one outfit in shades of gold, pewter, ivory, and black. There were also plenty of deep V necks, lacy edgings, and messy hairdos.
One look I’m most likely to try is an embellished slip dress. You could take our Cami Dress pattern, and stitch a romantic gold trim to the neck and hemlines. I love the idea of a boudoir-inspired, one-of-a-kind piece that you could slip under a cardigan. Thakoon showed a version in both cream and black.
My other favorite are the texture-blocked pieces, like the above right. You could take the Plus Size V Neck Dress, and swap out the cotton poplin in the skirt for a metallic viscose or even leather. Add sequin or leather trim in place of the ribbon for extra glam. The Sleeveless Shift Dress is another option for a simpler, slouchy silhouette that would shine in a metallic.
If you have the nerve to copy this show’s metallic trousers, the Cuffed Trousers or the Plus Size Silk Trousers in creamy duchesse are good picks. Pair pants with a little shine with a drapey tank to get the look from this show.
