Who doesn’t love to make a dramatic entrance in a flowing cape? If you’re unsure about fitting a cape into your wardrobe, read on, you may fall in love!

Pictured above: Lindsey Thornburg’s Pendleton Mini Cloak Jackets.

Check out these capes spanning from 2009 to present:

Yves Saint Laurent

Nina Ricci, Chanel, Stella McCartney

Nicolas Andreas Taralis, Missoni, Dolce & Gabbana

Alberta Ferretti, Emporio Armani, Emilio Pucci

Noir, Chado Ralph Rucci, Ralph Lauren

Marc Jacobs, Diane von Furstenberg, Jenni Kayne

Make one yourself: (1) Cape with high collar, (2) The Lindsey cape with pointed collar, and (3) this shrug-like capelet makes a perfect in-between jacket & cape.

Lindsey Thornburg’s cape is simply perfection! I can’t think of anything else these days! But for a price of $1000, it looks like I’ll have to come up with my own version. :)

Hi Burda, Thanks for this post and the inspiration to get started on my own winter cape. I really like the black one, top left on the first collage, do you know where I could find a pattern for that style? I’ve looked around and am stumped. Please help! Thanks in Advance!

Lindsey Thornburg is an amazing designer. I also love her maxi dresses. Her website has some beautiful photography and is definitely worth a look. You can never go wrong with a good cape.

The pendleton ones are beautiful….Vogue Fabrics in Evanston, IL had a beautiful Pendelton-like fabric called Santa Fe…they may still have it…it would make a great cape.
