After the whir of the holidays and finally getting all the presents made I have turned my eyes to the future, and by the future, I mean the New Year. It’s a great time to start a new, turn over a new leaf and stick to your resolutions, as hard as that may be.
After a year of working here at BurdaStyle, I have decided to actually make more of what I wear. Though there have been missteps (my first 100,000 member T shirt is still kicking around the office) I have learned from them, and am making the pledge to make more and buy less for 2009.
What are your sewing resolutions?

Sounds like a good resolution!
I haven’t really thought of one and don’t usually make them because I never hold to them, but I’d like to sew more and spend more time on my crafts — such as crochet and scrapbooking.

I’ve just finished planning my sewing projects for the next year. This way I’m not trying to hurry and make gifts for Christmas at the last minute. I’ll be attempting to make myself more clothes and use up a lot of my fabric stash. Wish me luck and Happy New Year to all!!!

deplete my stash!

This year I’m going to try more ambitious projects. It worked well with knitting last year, so this year I’m going to tackle sewing!! Happy New Year everybody!!!

This year I plan to get the word out to individuals and various local businesses regarding the expansion of my sewing business, “Illuminations”: alterations, gowns & bridal. I LOVE doing bridal sewing! Just made 2 veils…and I loved it!!!! Also doing more calligraphy again!!!

I plan to actually finish all of those sewing projects I have lined up. It’s bad when you have a dress that’s about half-way finished and it hasn’t been touched for 5 years.

I read a lot of sewing blogs, and so I’ve seen several people make themselves “miniwardrobes” where all the pieces mix and match. So I’d like to try one of those this year. And make myself a pair of jeans that actually fits!!

My goals for the new year (atleast where sewing comes in) are:
-Work on my sewing skills (I’m fairly new to it)
-Make more of what I wear, and try and re-use as much as possible
-Help my bf’s little sister with making some of her own clothes (she’s 11)
With getting an awesome dress form, rotary cutter and mat…I should be ready to get started with these goals.

Happy New Year! I set goals and plan what I want to accomplish for the year while setting time aside to complete those goals. It’s been difficult to find time to sew these last five years with my son being born, being the main provider in the family as well as taking on design school full-time while working 3 jobs. I look back and thank God for carrying me through! With 3 kids, I barely find the time to do alterations and fix ups. But this year, I vow to return to the things I love to do – design and sew. I too want to make more of the clothes I wear and use up the stash of fabrics I’ve been storing for too long. I have found profound inspiration, passion, and a renewed sense of style being a member of BurdaStyle. Thank you to all the members for your tips and contributions. You all are truly amazing and gifted individuals.

i think this will be the first resolution i really want to stick to:
commit to making more stuff.
because i usually say i’m going to do something but never end up doing it. so this following year, i will do my best to complete the projects i wish to do.
hopefully i can do it.

I am hoping to make a dress form so I can fit my clothes better. I am also hoping to get into the back shed and get out the tubs of fabric that I haven’t seen for years. My middle son is going into the marines in April, so besides worrying, I plan to redo the room into a sewing/craft area. I hope to always treat others with love and respect. I try to work on improving myself all year, not just at the beginning. It puts too much pressure and guilt on us when we make loads of resolutions that we can’t keep. Goals are supposed to be attainable, realistic, and measurable. Celebrate all your successes, just the fact that you know how to create beautiful things is an accomlishment, be proud of yourselves and who you are, you are all awesome. Bless you all in the new year. 2009 Will Be Divine!

I am going to try to stay one size ahead for my growing granddaughter. Usually, by the time I get an outfit finished, she is already wearing that size and wears it only once or twice! So I have to plan way ahead and sew for the next size well in advance. Fingers crossed! Happy New Year everyone!

Finish all my partially completed projects and generally sew more and use a good chunk of my stash. Also learn how to applique and embroider (just bought myself some floss and a few SublimeStitching kits with my Christmas money =)

My New Year’s Resolution is influenced by a recent request by my oldest son, age 32. I’m initiating a campaign for more (and more useful) patterns for men. When my boys were young (there are three of them, and I have no daughters) most of the patterns I could find for them were “unisex” – which elicited outraged “I’m not wearing GIRLS’ clothes!” because of the pictures on the pattern envelope. Never mind that shorts and t-shirts really are kind of unisex. In the past two days, however, I have searched (not that it took all that long) three major pattern companies’ websites, and located a grand total of 4 useful shirt patterns, not a single pattern for pants other than elastic-waist pull-ons that most closely resemble pajamas, and – heaven help me – a tuxedo. No jeans, no khakis, no cargo pants, just “boxers” in three lengths. My very tall son wants clothes that fit him, has a limited budget, and asked Mom for help. At the moment, I’m reduced to asking if he’d be willing to give up a $50 pair of pants so I can cut them up to make a pattern from them – or wait until he wears them out, which probably won’t take long since he can’t afford many pairs at that price.
So, just a hint to those of you out there who are designers – not all of us sew only for ourselves; many of us – including, maybe, you? – have men in our lives for whom we want or need to sew. Give me pants patterns! (Sorry about sounding like a rant, but I’m VERY frustrated. I sew; I don’t design.)
Happy new year, and I’m looking forward to finding more of what I want (like men’s clothing) in 2009.

Most everyone seems to be vowing to use up their stash and make more of what they wear rather than buy. Me too!!! On top of that, I plan on mending the HUGE pile of clothes resting in the corner of my craft room. I think if I do that, I will feel like I have a whole new wardrobe.

My new year resolution is to stitch some beautiful clothes for myself.I have started stitching after a long break and am inspired by the creations of other members.God bless burdastyle for this!

I’m with Sunnyb64! I’m so going to make a miniwardrobe- starting with my suit :) I’ve been planning to try my hand at some jeans, and I need to make more shirts. I plan to sew more clothing than I buy this year and diversify my skill set trying a whole bunch of different techniques on different pieces!

I’m the same as kitlitter56! My resolutions are to make more time for sewing and get involved with this great site MORE! Actually, I do have one definitive resolution for 2009. That’s to finish the Anda dress which has been the bane of my life since I started it. :)
Huge thanks to the BurdaStyle team for making this brilliant site & best wishes to everyone in 2009.

I have so many! I want to take more sewing classes, learn more couture skills, try more ambitious patterns, and to focus on sewing well rather than sewing quickly.

I’ve planned my projects for the new year. Making more clothes for myself and family. And, promise to maintain a ‘homemade’ household!

In 2009 i vow to either finish my UFO’s or get rid of them. There’s actually not that many now thankfully. My JJ blouse is one of them, my jacket needs making and i have some quilts which i’m working on getting finished.
I’d also like to try and keep my sewing room relatively tidy, but i think i’m having a laugh with that one! hehe
Happy New Year everyone!!!!!

I resolve to
-make more time for sewing without compromising my grades
-get my stash under control (as it is now exploding from the bookcase and onto half of my floor)
-make headway on my ever growing alterations pile
-reconstruct something every month
-only buy shoes and accessories, and make my own clothes

I have decided to challenge myself in sewing up all my fabric pieces before purchasing any others. My stash will provide me with a substantial summer wardrobe (in Australia) and some winter garments. I will not purchase remnants unless they are exquisite pieces and I will buy good quality fabrics with a wardrobe plan. Not sure how I will go.

Get my GD to finish what she starts where sewing is concerned. This will be one sewer who will have no UFO’s tucked away. All else is her mama’s domain!;) Nehmah

I resolve to sew less clothes in this year than I did in 2008. This means I’ll have to challenge more ambitious and more time-taking projects, or I’ll need to extra thoughtful planning before I start. I’d like to try to make my new sewing blog fruitful for me too, to learn how to write things in plain&correct words in English. I’d love to travel abroad to be inspired (sewing-wise) by different cultures and clothes, too.

I resolve to have all of the new baby’s diapers sewn before he/she arrives in August, and master sewing modest maternity dresses

I am in the process of making the sewing room efficient, and I have quilting and fashion projects planned for 2009. They include Burda WOF patterns and others. I am looking forward expecially to trying my first WOF pattern. Happy New Year to all!

I’ve recently realised that I want more colour and fun in my wardrobe, to feel good in the way I dress every day, and to dress in my own style – whatever that may include. In the past, my weight has fluctuated a lot so to save time I usually shop at 2nd hand clothes stores and have a few hand made pieces. This year it’d be great to have a stable weight so that I can create an entirely handmade, individual wardrobe. I plan on making new clothes from old, and making some clothes for my man – when he is able to tell me what he likes/wants – I don’t want to be part of the crowd that dictates what their bloke wears!
Dec 30, 2008, 06.04 PMby minnietheminks
Mmmmm, I want to commit to not buying anything new, that means, using my fabric stash, making more of my own patterns and up/recycling. I do this mostly already but the odd crazy moments catches me… maybe I should set up a blog and see how I go :)
Reasons I want to do this, the social and environmental implications of those ‘cheap clothes’ and to finally in my 30’s have a classic ; quality not quanity; wardrobe that works!
Happy Hogmanay and all the best for 2009 xx
