Thank you to all of the superbly talented members who took part in our Halloween Costume Contest!
GoneWandering‘s project Jaws Halloween took a bite out of the competition with her jaw dropping costume (I can’t resist the puns)!
GoneWandering will receive fabrics from Laurie Wisbrun, thread from Mettler, and her own BurdaStyle “Stitches” T-Shirt!
I can’t wait for next year! 356 days and counting…

Well done, very clever. I once made a Hot Dog costume and it was a lot of work. Of course, your picture made it all the better. :)

I too loved this costume idea..when I saw it for sale on a Halloween costume website. I appreciate the hard work it would take to create this costume..but it is a copy. Sorry.

It’s unfortunate that’s the conclusion you jump to immediately. In fact, I made a conscious decision not to Google “jaws costume” or anything of the like while I was designing and making the costume so as not to be influenced by anything that might have been done previously. I think it would be nearly impossible to create a costume that hasn’t been done before in some shape or form, and it’s not “copying” it’s just a different interpretation. Does a well-made Queen of Hearts costume or knight costume or pirate costume or rabbit-coming-out-of-a-top-hat costume have any less merit because it has been done before? Not at all, in my opinion. It’s about visualizing something and making it happen. And, frankly, this is the first “being eaten by a shark” costume I’ve ever seen or heard of, and from the feedback my sister got while wearing it, it was a first for lots of other people as well. You are, of course, entitled to your opinion, but it’s unfortunate that the costume is automatically discredited in your eyes (as, I imagine, were most other entries) despite the quality and execution of the design.
