Since 2004, Vogue and the CFDA have paired up to offer financial funding to up-and-coming American designers through their Fashion Fund awards. With an illustrious list of past nominees including Proenza Schouler, Derek Lam, Isabel Toledo, Michael Bastian, Jason Wu and Doo.Ri, just to name a few, the pool from which the council chooses their winners is as talented as they are varied.
For 2010 the council nominated 10 designers and labels representing womenswear, menswear and accessory design:
ALTUZARRA – Joseph Altuzarra
BILLY REID – Billy Reid
CHRISTIAN COTA – Christian Cota
EDDIE BORGO – Eddie Borgo
GREGORY PARKINSON – Gregory Parkinson
LODEN DAGER – Oliver Helden and Paul Marlow
MOSS LIPOW- Moss Lipow
PAMELA LOVE JEWELRY – Pamela Love
PRABAL GURUNG – Prabal Gurung
ROBERT GELLER –Robert Geller
Get inspired by some of the pieces from nominees’ Fall 2010 collections and our BurdaStyle patterns for your future projects.
Loden Dager and Robert Geller – Both provide excellent menswear with a twist. Loden Dager is a bit more traditional, while Geller likes to take some chances with his designs.
For the Loden Dager look stick with basics like our Andrew Cardigan and Stinchcomb Jacket. If your tastes lie towards Robert Geller, be more daring with your outerwear and try out our Adam Coat in a dark pattern or nubby textured material.
Billy Reid – This southern boy sticks to his roots and makes menswear and women’s clothing steeped in tradition and heritage Americana.
For the girls, Reid sticks to ladylike pieces with a tomboyish flair. Patterns like our Three Quarter Sleeve Coat, Vanessa Skirt and Shirt Dress are the perfect way to get that classic look.
For the fellas think straight up traditional menswear in super fine fabrics and made with expert craftsmanship. Our Jason Vest, Stinchcomb Jacket and Jochen Pants capture the aesthetic perfectly.
And congratulations go out to Reid, who was the big winner this year – taking home a $200,000 check to help fund his business and future design endeavors.
