I’m a beginner, so I’ve only really worked with cotton. I’ve found linen easy to work with. I can’t wait to “stretch out” into some knits like ponte.

Rough cotton, curtain cotton… not as thick as denim, but easy to handle… I am not patient enough to work with light fabrics!! :P

My former MIL gave me three lengths of chic-ly psychedelic Thai silk she bought on vacation there in the 60s. These are my favorite fabrics, both for their unique color-saturated designs, and the history that comes with them. Ilovethe connection I feel both to a woman I was very fond of, and a time I can never visit.

I love linen and linen blends! I also love silk but I don’t enjoy sewing it so much.

100 per cent cotton, the tighter the thread count the better.

it is tough to choose just one. I’ve always loved working with wool, but lately also soft fluid knits. guess it depends on the day and the project!

Cotton and wool are just so well behaved, I love them. But if I had to pick one fabric I would have to go with stretch velvet because I use it for skating costumes and I always love the end results.

I have been working with ponte knits right now they are very easy to work with and comfy to wear to work. I enjoy working with boucle wool, and cottons too. Selvedge looks like a fabulous magazine!

Just plain old cotton as one knows what one gets when touching it. I have worked with great chiffons as well – but also with some that were really hard to handle and so i am a bit intimidated by it.

I love wool, the funny smell when you steam it, the feel and drape, plus it cuts and sews really well :)

Wool, because of its flexibility, is my overall favorite fabric to work with. It can be moulded with steam, and different weights and weaves provide quite different effects. It’s also usually fairly easy to handle in the sewing process. As a natural fiber there’s no petrochemicals in the material, which makes wool a relatively environmentally friendly choice–a definite plus!

I like working with upholstery fabrics. The lines are so clean and crisp on them (if you sew it correctly!). I just made some curtains from upholstery fabric and I really like the way it feels under the machine foot.

If I had to choose only one, then it would be wool. I love sewing changing people’s perception of wool by sewing fabulous things.

Seriously, you want me to choose just one fabric?! I’d have to say silk and satin. I love the feel of them and sewing them is difficult but satisfying. -D
