Rutherford B. Hayes! I’m ashamed, I didn’t even remember he was one of our presidents. That’s some button history they’ve got going there.

If it was 1877 and Rutherford B Hayes was President, then I’m betting my great-grandmother had some of those buttons.

Not meaning to be different, but according to http://investing.businessweek.com/research/stocks/private/snapshot.asp?privcapId=997626 in 1995 a company at the same current physical address as Blumenthal Lansing was founded. This marries with general info on the bottom of the page at http://www.blumenthallansing.com/about.html regarding the acquisition of Lansing Company by B. Blumenthal & Co, the latter founded in 1877. So my answer is William Jefferson “Bill” Clinton.

Rutherford B. Hayne was elected President of the United States. He became president March 4, 1877. So If Blumenthal was form on or after that date Haynes was president.

Fun facts: the B stands for Birchard. Ulysses S. Grant was president 1877 also until the oath of office was taken by Haynes.
