Rutherford B. Hayes, who was the 19th President of the United States and served from 1877 to 1881. I’d love to have buttons from that period for some of my Victorian costumes!

In the US, it was Rutherford B. Hayes. In Brazil we had the emperor Dom Pedro II, we weren’t a republic yet. In 1889 the republic was proclaimed when we had our first (but not elected by the people) Deodoro da Fonseca.
