Burdastyle is my favorite! I love looking at other’s projects and reading their ideas and making my own!! I also people watch a lot, when I see someone wearing a really cute garment I’ll store the idea away in the back of my head, and then draft a pattern when I have free time.

I started sewing clothing for myself about 7 years ago and I have a clothing line which I have been doing full time for about a year. AND my serger just crapped out.

Where do I find sewing inspiration? I watch a lot of home interior shows, and enjoy sewing a variety of things to decorate my home. I also enjoy looking up ideas online, and thankfully discovered Burda :) . I read a lot of books (love them) about sewing and decorating. This would be an awesome treat!

I learned basic sewing skills in junior high school but didn’t “take” to it at once. However, my mother sewed a little, so I learned more over time. My grandmother quilted and that’s what really hooked me. I love to piece quilts. And, every now and then I make a piece of clothing — some have turned out surprisingly well! But finishing seams is the bane of my garment sewing — what I wouldn’t give for a good serger!

For inspiration and a look at what’s current in Europe, BurdaStyle! I love the blog and web site. I got into it from looking at Diary of a Sewing Fanatic blog! Also like Sew News and Sew Fun! blogs.

I love to pore through the public library…books on history with photographs and drawings of people in period clothing are wonderful inspirations for costuming! My son is actually the big costume hunter. He’s also the best-dressed 17 year old I know. Every day, he wears neat pants, button down shirt, vest with pocket watch, sometimes a jacket, and a smart hat (his fave is a bowler). And a walking stick. He’s also interested in learning how to make his own clothing.

Honestly I hunt around everywhere online. Sometimes my inspiration comes from designer duds, and sometimes it’s from other crafty people.

My mum is my sewing inspiration, she is so talented, I watch with amazement at her zipping here and there, then she hands the reigns over to me and I am just a slow poke. I love surfing websites, and looking at old movies for styles that I would like to create.

I often grab my book light, a sewing book and head for my reading chair. Its a pleasant way to spend an evening as opposed to watching television.

I get my inspiration from fabrics. I usually go through a store and feel the fabric and look at the colors and they just speak to me. The fabric tells me what it wants to be. I know it sounds silly but it works for me.

I look at past styles, but try to use the lastest in colors and patterns. I like the longer skirts and fitted bodices. Also, I pick the minds of many of the members of the ASG I belong to.
