The straight lines and colors of athletic gear inspired this collection. Tennis dresses, a sporty V neck, and mesh top look good on or off the court. These patterns are from the July 2014 issue of Burda Style magazine.

Hit the tennis court in the Halter Dress with Pockets. A mix of fabrics like Matelassé and bouclé have subtle textural contrast in bright white. This sporty style has a flared skirt, halter neck, and front pockets.

_101

The V Neck Blouson Jacket has a sporty cut with voluminous sleeves and a deep V neck. It’s a casual topper for any outfit. Make the cuffs in a contrast color for your favorite team!

_109

Applied ribbons are an unexpected way to add stripes of color to a dress. This playful style has a square neckline, knee length, and patch pockets with ribbon details at the neck, sleeves, hem, and belt.

_114

Contrasting raglan sleeves and an exaggerated V neck band emphasize the figure for a prettier take on the baseball tee. Make this top in your team colors for a cute football night tee!

_107

The Wraparound Halter Dress has it all… colorblocking, wrap details, a leg slit, and a figure hugging fit. The halter style wraps around the neck for an extra kick. Style it sporty or sexy!

_103

The Wrap Skirt makes a great beginner project. This one is lightweight with a hip yoke, wrap detail, and lots of gathers for visual interest.

_110

This Tank Dress with Front Zip is almost cut like a sports jersey, with wide tank sleeves and a bright yellow color. Details like a full length front zipper and patch pocket finish the athletic wear look.

_111A

This Mesh Top is cut like a batwing style, but the shoulder seams stay open as wide sleeve vents. Put this sporty style over a bikini or wear it to the gym with a plain tank.

_112A

Color blocking gives these mid rise shorts extra punch. They’re cut loose from the hip for a nice change from super mini styles with a contrast waistband and front pockets.

_113

Contrast side panels in a darker color create a slimming effect in the athletic chic Zipper Neck Dress. The zippered neckline is right on trend with 90s style.

_115

The Racing Stripe Pants borrow style from striped workout pants. Make them in a bright color for 80s flair. Crepe de chine has a whole new look and makes racing stripes elegant enough for the city streets.

Athletic wear was a big influence on Spring 2014 runways. This collection pulls from designers like Calvin Klein and classic basketball and tennis styles. Cop their style with these fun designs and bright summer colors.

Happy sewing!

I made the Mesh Top twice out of washed silk noil…fabulous! Very elegant, can wear for daytime or sophisticated evening with leggings, short skirt, long skirt or pants. Very pleased.

I hope it is just my eyes playing tricks on me, but the applied stripes dress makes the model look 15 pounds heavier. Otherwise, love the collection, looks cool and comfortable. Zipper neck dress is my favorite!

I like the colour combinations for the contrast effect. This dress could double as a tunic top as well.

As a pedestrian, I am so tempted to use reflective fabric for the blue one (fabric list indicates that is blue, not the black I thought it was) used in the dress just to encourage nighttime drivers to not blind me with their car lights (some use high beams when the road traffic seems minimal) when I’m walking.

I’d likely lengthen the dress for an everyday garment to have in the warm weather!

Great collection, I love most of these. However, two things, the Wraparound Halter Dress is a cool dress, but what’s that combination of fabrics, I like the line drawing better than the actual dress, and also, the last photo for Racing Stripe Pants, odd! haha, sorry, it just looks weird to me, I love the pieces, but it’s not the best pose or photography.

As a girl who loves to exercise I love the inspiration for a number of these styles but the yellow mesh top yikes! The woman wearing this top is very pretty and has a nice figure but that top does not flatter her at all and it is hard to imagine it flattering a mere mortal. As to working out in it haha!
