During New York Fashion Week I had the pleasure of attending the Cynthia Rowley show in the main tent at Lincoln Center. Flirty with some hints of retro in the shape of mod-ish shift dresses and easy trouser-leg pants, Rowley kept it interesting with a recurring theme in the form of punched out circles and colorful circular cabochons, which adorned some of the more simple silhouettes. You can get a jump on the Spring trend and try the look for yourself on some of our classic patterns.
Rowley showed skirts with both perforations and stones, our timeless a-line skirt with pockets is the perfect piece to add a little punch (out) to.
One of my favorite items from Rowley’s collection was a slim, slightly flared pair of black pants with neutral colored cabochons along the waistband and pockets. Try it out for yourself on our wide legged trousers.
Rowley added a few rows of stones to the bottom of a pair of adorable short shorts. Our wide waistband shorts would look super cute with a little extra flair.
And last but not least Rowley adorned some of her dresses with a slew of colorful stones, giving the more simple shapes an added kick. Do the same to our cap sleeve mini dress and have your outfit and accessories all in one!
What items would you add Rowley’s quirky circular touch to?

Nice article – like this designer, love the dots, circles, whatever you want to call them this year.
Fun to see wearable and cute clothes.

Gorgeous looks! Love the orange pops of colour. I love this post, great to see how the pattern shapes on the site can translate to catwalk looks.

How do you add “punched out” shapes to fabric? How would you finish the edges?

Designers have been using laser cutters to add cut out effects to their garments lately. Its a huge trend now! I have laser cut some fabric but still need to sew some pieces out of it. The laser lightly burns the edges so the fabric doesn’t fray.

Thanks for the reply! I think it’s a really cool technique – maybe I’ll get to try it someday

Wow! there are circles in my spring collection as well! Soon to be shown at Houston Fashion Week I add them to a tank, a bustier, dresses, shorts, and jumper. I’m going to have to watch her slide show on style.com
