This blog is about sharing our everyday life in the design and production studio of BurdaStyle with you. That way you are always up to date on upcoming patterns and projects, AND you can give input in designs and ideas. Collaborative design, that is!
I am sure many interesting conversations will take place!
We are in the midst of sewing the samples of the Fall 08 Collection for our next photo shoot, which we are planning to hold on October 8th.
Many difficult decisions are being made during this time such as choices on fabric, trims and buttons. The photo shoot needs to be prepared, models and a location need to be found.
To kick off our conversation we were hoping for some help with some color choices:
Above you see part of our collection board, full of swatches and ideas. We are trying to decide on our color choice for our october skirt. We love all the bright colors that remind us of fall leaves. We are curious to hear which color swatches are making you excited about fall!

I also fell in love with teh red and orange colours in the left, but I also liked the green one that is together with them. I suppose I will get that skirt pattern for my next winter ’cause here I am getting into summer!!

I love the scrumptious russet colours and the mossy green. They are definitely on my list of “must-haves” to brighten up my dreary British winter! I admit that I also love the soft purple colour, but anything pure wool and tweed is just perfect for me!

The pinstripe, burgundy and mauve are my favourites and mauves are a big hit in the UK.

wow, you all are as much into these fall colors as I am.. All your responses inspired me for another swatch round! I think I will make another blog post..I am so inspired, I can’t just decide yet on one single swatch!

I love the tweed-y orange fabric on the bottom of the page. It has a push pin in it and is fourth from the left. My second choice would be the first swatch on the bottom of the page (far left) which is a bright but earthy red. YUM

I would love to see this skirt in some dark orange… Not brown, more happy happy!

I love the deep red with the tweed patterned brown

I love the plum/grey combo, it is very smart looking.

Oh I forgt to say about the colors. I love all the warmer tones oranges and plums and browns blend well and the warmer reds are a nice vibrant change for us to think about. It is not like the cooler tones we have had in the past few seasons deLadybex

Hi , How about a nice microfibre crepe type fabric for dressy events and for business microfibre houndstooth., tweeds and herringbone and maybe peachskin type fabrics. casual wear plaids , corduroy, microfibro suedes, and microfinre knits for all types of wear . I say micronfibre due to the ease of care . thanks for asking us deLadyBe4x

my favorites are the plum, the tweed in the middle of the bottom row, and the lavendar tweed… in that order

I would like to see the skirt made with a combination of plum with a wine/burgandy overlay. This would give this season’s “berry effect.”

I really like the black with pink pinstripes on the top it can be very cute and professional.

I like the brownish one in the middle. I hope this will be a nice and warm skirt for the cold days to come :)

I vote for the plums or the dark reds — much more sophisticated and classic. I like colors that have staying power in my closet.

I like plum color. I found it very grateful, for the skirts, but also for the tops. It looks very chic.

Maybe dark brown mixed with sand.
Or dark purple with lilac

The olive green and old gold color is drawing my eye, lower right corner. Then add the burnt red/orange that is close to it. Not the bright red/orange, the darker one.

I think the deep plum is beautiful and sophisticated. Its dark enough to compliment bright accessories for a pop of color.

I like the colours in the bottom right: orange, red and something greenish. This fall I also love a nice chocolate brown. It’s too early in the year for the darker colours like that dark red and the plum. Right now, I want my colours to be warm but not too dark and depressive.

It’s not really up there…except maybe that swatch from Elegant Fabrics, I can’t tell, but I’m completely obsessed with all shades of “sick green.” Olive green, acid green. Very 1930s.

Thank you so much for all you responses. Clearly it’s a difficult decision. During this weekend I had another idea. I was thinking of binding the bottom of the skirt in brown…anyway. I think I owe you another blogpost in response to this one to bring discussion further!

that looks like a cool skirt! i’m a sucker for anything red and orange, i especially love the oranges, one shade darker or lighter for the top layer?

All these colors are great, but I like the orange in the center bottom most, because you can combine it with many other colors!

For my own fall sewing wardrobe, I’ve decided I want to focus on grey, plum, and mustard. I’m doing well with the grey but I just don’t seem to find fabrics I like in the other two!
So with that in mind, I like the swatch set in the upper right the best.

the red and burnt oranage are great colours

ummm nice colors, love them all

I like the red and lila zig-zag blend in the upper part of the pic. I think this kind of blends really have an autumn/winter flavor to them.

I would prefer the orange and red colours on the left. They look really great. The lilac is too dark for me (but I don´t really like lilac in general, so maybe I´m just prejudiced).
