Shoes are not only made for walking, they are also made to create a big impression. Take a look at these exciting ideas for making shoes a little more glamorous…

Modern princesses will love the pumps with wide, embellished ruffles. The fabric strips are attached to the heels, with hot glue.

Materials: Pumps fabric, ruler, chalk pencil, pins, needle, scissors, ruler, thread (Coats), 8 sew-on crystals (Swarovski) and mountings, pliers, and hot glue.

Step 1: Cut 2 pieces of fabric, each 40 × 20 cm (16″ × 8″). Fold each in half lengthwise. Stitch edges closed, leaving 4 cm (1½") open, for turning. Trim allowances across corners. Turn right side out. Hand sew seam opening closed.

Step 2: Machine baste along centre but do not (!) tie-off ends of stitching. Knot threads at one end of stitching. Pull thread on opposite end, to gather strip. Now also knot these threads, to secure gathers.

Step 3: Lay crystals in mountings and bend prongs closed. Sew to ruffle. Glue finished ruffle to heel of shoe, with hot glue.

Plain ankle boots are given a wild feather cuff – which can be removed, of course.

Materials: Ankle boots, leather, screw fasteners, rotary cutter, hole punch, scissors, ruler, tape measure, feather trim, thread, clips, screwdriver, and cutting mat.

Step 1: Measure circumference of boot shaft and add 5 cm (2").

Step 2: Cut 2 leather strips (measured length x 8 cm/ 3¼"). Attach feather trim with clips, leaving the extra 5 cm (2") free.

Step 3: Topstitch close to all edges of leather strip, thereby catching feather trim. Attach fasteners to one end and punch 1 to 2 holes in opposite end, for closing.

Straight through the heart: The sandalettes with crystal-covered arrows are our true love. The arrows are simply pulled over the straps – so it’s easy to wear the sandals with or without them.

Materials: Sandalettes, metallic leather, pencil, leather glue, scissors, thread (Coats), clips (Clover), Hotfi x crystals (Swarovski), Hotfi x applicator, arrow template (download and print here)

Step 1: Trace arrow onto leather, twice, and cut out. Pin a loop piece (1 × 3 cm/ 3/8″ × 1¼") to one arrow and sew it in place.

Step 2: Work decorative stitching on the front arrow and glue it to the back arrow, wrong sides facing.

Step 3: Edgestitch arrows together. Attach crystals, with the help of the applicator. Slide arrow onto strap of shoe. Make 2nd arrow as mirror image.

Slinky seduction: The heel of this shoe is highlighted with a – watch out! – painted rubber snake from the toy shop. This is also a good way to hide worn areas on heels.

Materials: Pumps, rubber snakes, nail polish, paint markers, rubber gloves, cardboard, hot glue, tweezers, Hotfi x crystals (Swarovski), crystals, Hotfi x applicator.

Step 1: Paint both snakes with red nail polish and let dry. Now draw black and white stripes, face, and edges with paint markers.

Step 2: For the eyes on each snake, glue 2 crystals in place, with the help of the tweezers.

Step 3: Glue snakes to heels, with hot glue. With the applicator, glue crystals over the entire surface of the heel, spaced irregularly.

Get out the drill: The metal rivets are simply pressed into the holes.

Materials: Sneakers, drill, rivets, 2-component adhesive, pencil, ruler (Prym).

Step 1: Mark positions of rivets, with the help of a ruler.

Step 2: Carefully drill holes in the sole, as marked.

Step 3: Spread adhesive on each rivet and press in a drilled hole.

The bow on the sandalettes, on the other hand, is securely attached with a leather strip to create an exiting contrast to the patent leather.

Materials: Sandalettes, metallic fabric, patent leather, ruler, scissors, pins, needle, edge shaper, chalk, leather glue, square ruler, thread, stuffing.

Step 1: Cut two fabric rectangles (7 × 15 cm/ 2¾" x 6"). Fold each in half. Stitch edges closed, leaving approx. 3 cm (1¼") open, for turning.

Step 2: Trim seam allowances. Turn rectangles right side out. Make corners and edges smooth, with the help of an edge shaper. Stuff rectangles lightly and sew seam openings closed by hand.

Step 3: Cut two leather strips (1.5 × 5 cm/ 5/8″ × 2″). Lay one strip around each rectangle and sew closed on lower edge. Lay on strap of a sandalette and attach with hot glue.

Grommet Black Booties: Quick and easy: The cool peep-toes are embellished with various metal eyelets – just punch and attach!

Grey Woven Sneakers: Like a meadow in bloom! The flowers on the slip-ons are made from sparkling crystals from Swarovski, securely sewn in place with thread in a matching colour.

Blue Bow Pumps: Prettily packaged: A silk bow and Swarovski BeCharmed Beads are simply slid onto the strap of this shoe.
