Many a female heart was broken the day it was announced that Prince William had finally proposed to his longtime girlfriend, Kate Middleton. Now that the majority of us have come to terms with the fact that we are indeed not in the running to be British royalty, we can focus our attention on what Ms. Middleton will be wearing when she weds her Prince. WWD asked designers ranging from Vera Wang and Karl Lagerfeld to Jason Wu and Frida Gianinni to sketch their dream dresses for the new Princess. Who do you think should outfit Kate on her wedding day?

Sketches from Mark Badgley and James Mischka of Badgley Mischka and Ralph Rucci

I love the Nanette Lepore, the Doori Chung, the Peter Copping for Nina Ricci, and the Jason Wu. They are each elegant but not too fluffy or over the top.

I think if she had these to chose from she would go for the Frida Giannini for Gucci . doubt she would go for anything to fussy and big due to the Diana connection.

Nothing frilly and pouffy – it is enough she has a recycled engagement ring, she doesn’t need a Princess Di look alike frock as well! The Gucci is simply elegance itself and would only enhance her natural beauty.

It’s gotta be the Doori Chung – understated, but elegant. Just what we’d like our future princess to be : )

For me it’s a tie between the stunning silhouette of Gucci, showing off the figure, and beautiful waves and style of the Valentino!

Ralph and Monique have it tied up. The rest are too pedestrian or ideal for a bride’s 4th Hollywood wedding.

Monique Lhuillier always makes a bride look effortless.

Chado Ralph Rucci enscones a bride in art befitting the occasion.

Valentino and Monique Lhuillier are my two picks. Not sure which one has the priority though… both are gorgeous. Or, Lhuillier for the ceremony and Valentino for the reception… now that’s a thought. Either way, I’m really interested to see what she will wear. I love her style, so hopefully her wedding gown will be just as good or way better!

1 Gucci, 2 Doori Chung, 3 Roy. Kate is a very beautiful woman who can wear something that shows her beautiful body. She doesn’t have to cover up. Also , i hope she wears something " young" (some of the european royalty wore something covering up and old… why do they do that??)

Valentino! I would’ve gone for Vera Wang with eyes shut but Valentino topped that with the outstanding romantic and delicate approach! Exquisite!

These designs are so beautiful, although the collage one is a bit unusual?! I’m pretty sure a British royal won’t be getting married in strapless either, otherwise I’d agree with everyone else about Valentino, it’s just so lovely! It will be wonderful to see what she does walk down the aisle in!

The one from Nina Ricci is very cute and romantic, but I’m not sure I’d like these scales in real. Jason Wu’s one is quite simple, yet elegant. But my favourite is definitely the Valentino’s !

I have strong opinions here, being of English heritage on my mum’s side! I love what Rachel Roy did-very English. But I was sad to see no designs from John Galliano or Olivier Theyskens. Now that Lee McQueen (my favorite) is gone, those two designers would be my next go-to guys, in that order. They both have a wonderful sense of romance in their work. That being said, I think she should go with either Valentino or Nina Ricci. Protocol being what it is though, I believe she will go with an English designer/house.
