Burda Style For people who sew

Last week we asked how you would style The Jackie Dress variation from our new book BurdaStyle Sewing Vintage Modern. The BurdaStyle team styled their ideal Jackie Dress here and we chose three lucky members to win a copy of our new book. Check out our interpretations of their styles below!

We were so inspired by all the wonderful entries from our recent sewing competition that we’ve decided to give away three more copies of our new book. The BurdaStyle team has taken one of the variation projects from BurdaStyle Sewing Vintage Modern, the 1960s Jackie Dress, and styled it three ways. (This dress is based on the 1920s Louisa Drop-Waist Dress master pattern, as shown here in an abstract silk charmeuse.)

Meet Sarah Jung, the talented fashion illustrator from our latest book BurdaStyle Sewing Vintage Modern. Sarah is a New York City-based illustrator and costumer who works in both traditional and digital medias. She trained in design, patterning, draping, construction, and embellishment at the Parsons School of Design. This week, we interview BurdaStyle editor Jamie Lau, who is the co-author and lead designer of our latest book BurdaStyle Sewing Vintage Modern.

In addition to women’s projects, our new book BurdaStyle Sewing Vintage Modern also features men’s styles, including an adaptable button-down shirt pattern which can be turned into two variations (or more if you’re up for it!). We chatted with David Leon Morgan, a BurdaStyle alum and contributing writer to the book, about creative inspiration and his take on how to style vintage modern.

Our new book, BurdaStyle Sewing Vintage Modern hits bookstores next week. Five adaptable master patterns for tops, dresses, and pants are transformed into 19 different projects for women and men that draw inspiration from key fashion moments.
