My first sewing project was a little hand sewn tote bag. I made it out of red corduroy and some quilting weight cotton straps that I stuffed with poly fill. It fell apart after a few uses but I still thought it was awesome.

my first project was too long ago to remember but it was probably a little learning to sew book that my grandma gave me where you had to follow the stitch patterns printed on the pages

My first sewing project was an elastic waist skirt, which my mother INSISTED we do because it would “be easy” — even though at the time, I never wore skirts! I was so upset by the whole thing that I didn’t sew again for over 15 years — but I’ve been making up for lost time since. :D

I remember hand sewing a felt coin purse shaped like a cat. Machine sewing first project was an apron for home ec. Graduated quickly to a dress for myself! All successful because I took my time to follow the directions. I had a lot more patience than I do now as a grown-up!

My first actual project was the Coffee Date Dress from Elaine May, that I got here! It was somewhat successful, much much better than I could have expected. I still don’t wear it though.

When I was a child I made some Barbie clothes with the help of my grandma. She was a seamstress and I really wanted to be like her! I can’t remember if it was a success but I remember it was a lot of fun.

in grade school, i hand sewed a little blue mouse. i’d consider it a success as i still have it. my first machine sewn was a pair of draw string pants in home ec class in 8th grade. those weren’t a success- the crotch was so wrong.

My first sewing project was making a t-shirt and some shorts for my teddy bear. I hand sewed them as I was only little. The t-shirt worked out well, but my mum thought the shorts would be too difficult to make so she convinced me to make a skirt instead (even though my teddy was definitely a boy!). Teddy only wore the skirt for a few days but it just didn’t look right, so in the end he only wore a t-shirt. So I guess the t-shirt was a success, the skirt/shorts not so much!

So hard to remember, I am pretty sure it was Barbie clothes, yes it was. I hand sewed all kinds of clotes for my Barbies and then one day at a sleepover my friend showed me how to use her sewing machien! I was in heaven! We made Barbie beds and blakets and pillos, we had so much fun! I still remember sewing that first Barbie bed and stuffing it and thinging how awesome the sewing machien was!

My first sewing project was a great “success”. I was about 10, and I was home alone only for one hour. I was known as a very good kid, and no one was thinking I could do something “creative”. So, there was TV show on some high fashion, and there was one great, fantastic bright red dress. It looks so simple and easy, and my moms new fabric just the right color, (which was, by the way, expensive italian wool bought in Trieste), was lying in her closet, waiting for, what my mam said, perfect time to be used. Of course I was sure it would be a-piece-of-a-cake for me, and I just did it. You could only imagine how the “dress” looked like. Even now, over 30 years later we both remember the event. I am complaining my mom killed all creativity in me, and she is claiming that I killed her big dream of red dress. Of course, my dad never wanted to pay for new expensive fabric :) And recently, when I told them I started to sew my father just commented: great, but don use itallian wall :).

My first sewing project was a dress from the fabric I got for Christmas when I was in 6th grade. We were very poor so whatever we asked for had to be good & simple, so by sewing my own clothes I could create & have things to wear. I received a small sewing box and a pattern and fabric which I still have to this day. I now sew for my grandkids & great grandbabies. I love teaching my grandkids how to sew and they are so excited to create new things for themselves.

I made my first project for a 4-H fashion show. My French Blue A-line skirt with a ship’s wheel embellished bright red patch pocket was a huge success. Unfortunately, looking at a photo of my trip down the catwalk reminded me how truely frightening my hair was back in the early ’70’s!

Hmm, my first sewing project was made in 4-H. I either made a pillow or a doll sleeping bag for my first project.
