[UPDATE 12/12/2012] – Congratulations to BurdaStyle member Justine of Sew Country Chick
Comment on our blog for a chance to win a copy of Alabama Studio Style: More Projects, Recipes, & Stories Celebrating Sustainable Fashion & Living.
In Alabama Studio Style, Natalie Chanin, founder and creative director of the acclaimed fashion and lifestyle company Alabama Chanin, takes readers on a compelling journey of creativity, technique, and inspiration. Picking up where the celebrated Alabama Stitch Book left off, Alabama Studio Style is a craft and lifestyle book all in one.
Here Chanin shares many more of her stitching, stenciling, and beading methods and applies them to twenty extraordinary clothing and home décor projects, each made with organic or recycled materials and designed with “haute homespun” flair. Along with the company’s celebrated camisole and tank dresses, the featured projects include skirts, scarves, pillows, woven chair seats, and a stenciled scrap-wood table. Rounding out the book are recipes for three delicious party menus. Alabama Studio Style shows us that true style encompasses not only what we wear, how we decorate, and what we eat, but also how we care for our environment.

Nighttime sewing is best for me! Quietness and stillness of night make for great concentration.

I am a night sewer. After dinner my husband plays xbox and I pop in my headphones, listen to podcasts, and sew until it’s time for bed.

I love to sew anytime my kids are happy playing. My 14 month old girl loves to transport my cotton to different areas of the house. But at least she lets me sew when I am fresh in the morning. Great fun.

Favorite time is midday, on the weekend. However, my life rarely allows for that, and so in practice I’m usually an evening sewer. Sometimes just 15 minutes at night, to relax after a busy day…

I love sewing in the midmorning sun with the ground covered in snow outside my window.

I’m such a night owl. I love to sew between 10 and 1 am. I always seem to be motivated to finish something because the bed is calling by the end!

My favourite time is in the evening after work, once I’ve had dinner and done any jobs around the house. It’s my wind down time and my relaxing time. A great way to finish the day!

I love sewing late at night, when everything is really quite and I can hear the low hum of my sewing machine. I also really like sewing in the early morning, I feel good to start my day off with sewing.

I like to sew at daylight, when I see better what I do, and I’m still not so tired, and make less mistakes.

I love sewing in the afternoon when the light is best. But there isn’t really a bad time to sew when you enjoy it so much!

Usually in the morning after my coffee and breakfast. This way I know I can have the full day to keep up with my interest in the project.
