Whether you are or are not familiar with artist Sonia Delaunay (November 14, 1885 – December 5, 1979), you are in for a treat. A forerunner of the Orphism Movement, Delaunay’s body of work spans from paintings in bright, bold Cubist colors to textile and set design. Thanks to the Smithsonian Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum, who recently housed a Delaunay exhibit, we can show those who can’t come to New York City an insider’s view of the retrospective!
Sonia Delaunay was the first living female artist to have a retrospective at the Louvre in 1964.

Fabulous, I’ve never heard of her (or forgotten), but I love what you posted above. I got fabric paint for printing really cheap on a sale a while ago, this gave some ideas on how to use them. It’s fascinating how modern some of her patterns still are…

I’ve been intending to post this collection – particularly the knitted bathing suits – to the Stitch in Time vintage knitting group over at Ravelry. These suits appear to be in excellent condition. Amazing!

That knitted bathing suit is great isn’t it, not very practical if it were to get wet though, I might try to recreate the look of it as a knitted bag.
