Hey all, so this is the longest title ever, but this challenge is super great and for a great cause!
The Sewing & Stitchery Expo held February 25-28 in Puyallup, WA is the largest consumer sewing show in the country. Coats & Clark is sponsoring this year’s charity Pink & Red Fashion Show, with BurdaStyle hosting the virtual event!
The Coats & Clark Pink & Red Fashion Show is partnering with both the American Heart Association and the American Cancer Society to fight the two biggest killers of women in America — heart disease and breast cancer. To honor these two amazing charities we are asking everyone to create an outfit in pink and red. So here’s where the challenge comes in. By submitting a project, you will be entered to win an invitation to model it at the show on Feb 28th, an assortment of Coats & Clark Thread and more!
The project must be predominately pink and red. Any shade of pink or red can be used and the colors do not have to be in the same proportion. For example, a garment may be red with pink trim or accents. Neutral colors such as black or white or a coordinating print can be part of the garment, but pink and red must be the main colors. You must use thread as a design element in the garment. For example—decorative stitching, embroidery, thread painting, topstitching—be creative! Garment can be from or based on a commercial pattern or an original design. Click for free BurdaStyle patterns.
You have until 11:59pm EST January 31st 2010 to either upload or email an image of the completed Pink & Red garment to BurdaStyle.
E-mail photograph(s) of your entry with your name, complete mailing address and e-mail address to BurdaStyle: submissions (at) burdastyle.com or upload it as a project to the BurdaStyle website. You must put “Pink & Red” in the subject line or title of the project, if this is not somewhere in the title, we cannot guarantee it will make it into the slideshow.

So exciting. I dont know if I have something in mind in red and pink but will meditate on it and try to get inspired for a great cause.

I am also ready to participate. Today I already spent some money on red and pink fabrics… I can’t wait to get started but have to until my two little boys are sleeping…

I have the same question too! The “Legal Speak” doesn’t say anything about age. It also doesn’t say how many pieces we can enter!
Jan 16, 2010, 08.21 PMby couturecutie
That is so disappointing, because what if we enter, and then they say that we aren’t old enough. I imagine that you can only enter one piece though, but it would be so much easier to win if we could enter more than once.
Jan 28, 2010, 12.00 AMby alden
You can enter as long as you have consent of a guardian!

I just have a question regarding one of the dresses pictured in the competition ad. The one on the left looks a lot like a knockoff JCrew dress from an earlier season that I loved. I was planning on trying to recreate the dress myself. Is there someone who’s already created a pattern for the dress shown. If so, is it available? Thanks!

More than a week for a contest! WOOT! I’m all over this. I love a challenge and I’ve never really used red and pink before. I just ran out on my lunch break and bought a bunch of fabric…. I have some ideas, but nothing concrete yet of course. I just gave myself a budget and made a quick sketch with some thoughts and fabric ideas. Wish me luck!

Same for me – no time. There has always been a great competition when I had to study or nedded to write a termpaper. Could you use some magic powers to consider my exams next time? ; ) Looking forward to seeing other members’ creations!
