Newhomepage-blog_large

We’ve been working hard on a redecorating project and are super excited to share it today!

As you may have noticed, we’ve made a few changes to our homepage that we hope will improve your experience on the site. The homepage is your door to all of the exciting things happening in this growing community. During the redesign, our goal was to make sewing, creating, learning and sharing even more fun and accessible for our fantastic members.

We are so proud of the variety and quality of the patterns we have on BurdaStyle and are now featuring a curated selection of our most popular ones, to be updated weekly.

Project of the Week now has it’s own homepage spot so you can easily find our in-house creations any day of the week.

We added a new section containing our most popular articles from the blog to keep you up-to-date on the lastest in fashion, sewing and DIY.

The Featured Member section has been expanded to accommodate more project pictures to showcase the amazing talents of our members.

It’s now even easier to connect with us on Facebook through our new homepage widget.

What do you think of our new front door?

Best Wishes,

Your BurdaStyle Team

I was wondering about the change so this explains it! I like the new home page – everything seems to be easier to find. Is there any reason why there is no “home” button on the toolbar (or have I just now found it)?

Well, you can just click the “BurdaStyle” logo in the top left to come to the homepage. :)

I agree with the others about putting the featured member projects higher on the page – they are why I actually look at the homepage ( I bookmark the projects page rather than the homepage). The patterns are popular so they probably aren’t that new to most people, unlike the projects.

Misslivia got the point about member projects being relegated to the bottom of the page. All in all, the reshuffle looks good!

I like it, lots to look at and chose from. I think you could combine the three personal boxes on the right (‘My Profile Views…" box, Avatar box and Activity I am Following box – which isn’t working btw) into one box for a more streamline look but other than that looks great.

I think the next thing you should do is bring back the feature from the old website where when you are viewing a members project there is a box showing other projects by them.

One more thing: How is the “Most Popular Patterns” decided? Is it by downloads? I know why the coffee date dress is there but there are other patterns more popular than what is shown in the 2nd and 3rd spot positions. Just curious :)
Also I was thinking maybe make these smaller, get 5 across and 2 lines in, we like moar ;)

      Hi kaitui-kiwi,

Please email answers@burdastyle.com about your Activity box, we need to get that fixed! Please send a screenshot and browser you are using.

The Most Popular Patterns are decided by a combination of downloads, finished projects, and purchases in the last week and accumulated.

I think it’s more than just kaitui-kiwi’s activity box that’s broken, mine hasn’t work in quite a while so I get there are a lot more people’s that don’t work as well. Also it would be really cool to see a quick statistic about how many times the patterns have been downloaded, but that might just be the nerd in me.

In general, I like the re-design, however, I think you should switch the location of top patterns and featured member projects. I go to the site less for patterns and more for the people, so I like being able to see the featured member projects when I first load the page. It kind of seems like they have become less important (for lack of a better word) by relegating them to the very bottom of the page. You could even just switch them with the blog articles. Overall, my screen is wider than it is tall, so I feel like it is smarter to keep things (like the blog posts) on the side bar and use up all of my screen space :) Thanks for always being innovative!

      Hi misslivia,

By no means are Featured Member Projects less important. One of our reasons for placing the patterns and project of week at top is to give quick access for creation, i.e. projects to make.

I will definitely relay your thoughts to the design team. Further understanding why our community visits the site will impact the future of our design.

I just viewed this, very nice. Ease of use gets it a plus. Good job.
