It’s a moment many girls have dreamed of their entire lives; or it happens by chance; or love just simply inspired you to have one: a wedding. A public display of promising love. It can get pretty sappy, but there’s one aspect of weddings I adore: the gowns. Check out these stunning, inspiring + exciting ideas…
The beautiful BurdaStyle brides and their clients, friends, sisters and husbands…
Short is the new long:

Starting at the top and moving clockwise: Short + Pleated; a short and sassy tiered organza gown; and a playful short and full gown with gathered skirt.
Shotgun Wedding:

Starting at the top and moving clockwise: Ivory hammered silk with dusty rose sash, ; silk charmeuse empire waist gown; v-neck gown with gathers sitting in lovely yellow flowers.
Strapless + Classic:

Starting at the top and moving clockwise: Joy’s gown with a purple sash; burda style magazine’s strapless gown pattern; and a strapless gown with subtle bodice detailing.
Destination Dress:

Melissa Caringer’s short and sweet Destination wedding dress is absolutely divine! How wonderful are these photos?

Years before I got married, my sister and I made a pact: whichever one married first, the other would make the gown. I sew and she knits & crochets. I was overjoyed when she crocheted my wedding gown! It cost me $55 in yarn and $12 of it was to order the pattern. But I am sad that my sister never married. I have sewn a wedding gown for my friend, ‘a sister from another mother’ though. And since I have all sons, maybe a daughter in law will want to wear MY gown.

I made my own Gunne Sax inspired gown 39 years ago and by next week hope to have finished one for my youngest daughter! She chose a corset topped caught-up skirt combination in silk that required all my expertise but I think the results will be worth it!

All beautiful gowns, but we are missing Adriana Orozco’s beautiful creations, even if they are not for herself, they are works of art, and so worth mentioning!

I especially like the crinoline that peaks out under the skirt – this would be a sweet option for a lot of skirts

Is there a category under Projects for wedding gowns? That would be such a fun day’s browsing!
Thanks for the post.
How about a tutorial on how to do the gorgous gathers on the last dress?

Melissa bought the fabric like that apparently, its for home decor too!
Saying that I would love to see a tutorial on how to do that too. I imagine you would have to sew the fabric like that then cut it out afterwards.
So pretty!

Those gathers look like its widely spaced honey comb smocking. There are lots of tutorials on the net for smocking.

More, more! Wedding gowns are art, they should be seen and not stowed away forever (or until you have to move or need the storage space)

Oh how I wish there were more patterns for wedding dresses, for those of us not good enough to design our own. My mom talked me out of trying to make mine. :(

Very beautiful! Well done ladies! I don’t know whether I’d ever be able to pull that off. Just one thing, too bad all the dresses shown here are strapless or with small straps. I would have loved to see some with a bit of sleeve (for the ones among us that are not super happy with their arms…)

Ah, here is an example of a gorgeous vintage inspired dress with a bit of sleeves: http://www.burdastyle.com/projects/burda-32008-116-vintage-style-wedding-dress?image=213729
