The 1940s were an era of no nonsense glamour. Take a page from hardworking wartime ladies with leather bomber jackets, a high waisted skirt, and a luxurious silk jumpsuit, plus a men’s jacket! These designs are from the October 2010 issue of Burda Style magazine.

Go for a wearable full vintage look in the Leather Jacket with Detachable Fur Collar and Wide Legged Trousers. Both pieces have a little luxury and will stand the test of time in your closet.

Update a classic silky blouse with pleated breast pockets. This is a great silhouette for fabrics with some drape. Tuck it into a 1940s inspired skirt for a modern touch.

A silk satin jumpsuit takes the workman style for a glamorous spin. This style has lots of great details, like buttoned breast pockets, hip pockets, and belt loops, buttoned cuffs at the wrist and ankle. Pair this slinky one piece with a canvas belt to show off the waist and a bright red lip for vintage flair.

A well-fitting A-line skirt is just as feminine as a tight pencil silhouette. This style has a nipped in waist that you can belt to show off your waist. Get a sharp look with a crisp white blouse, heeled oxfords, and a military canvas belt.

Cozy up in this relaxed velour jacket with extra wide lapels and a soft sash. More structured than a duster but more casual than a blazer, this jacket is so versatile and warm

This smart Double Breasted Jacket has on trend menswear style with its double breasted silhouette. Pick antique buttons for the front and cuffs for a girlier touch.

These Pants make a statement with just a few well placed details. A leather insert at the ankle catches the eye, and the unique shape is fun to wear. Pants are fitted with a buttoned cuffs and no waistband, plus front and back pockets.

Keep him warm and dry against all the elements in this rugged Barbour Jacket. This jacket has so many great details, like belted cuffs, lots of pockets, shoulder tabs, and an elasticated waist. Stretch your skills with this all-terrain jacket!

A luxurious Lambskin Jacket has masculine appeal that looks great toughening up a vintage dress or flirty skirt. This is an heirloom piece to last for years!

Layering up against the cold is a great reason to try out a new shape or fabric. These designs have timeless luxury, so set them off with a retro hairstyle or some red lipstick!

Happy sewing!

I really love the blouse, coats, skirt, and the pleated pants. My shape wouldn’t look good in any of them, but I love the style.

This collection is one of my favs! It may be your aviator collection but there is something so romantic about it in a 1940’s WWII, “Rosie the Riveter” kind of way.

When this collection first appeared in the magazine my husband and I both had the same reaction: Baloo’s boss Rebecca from the old Disney afternoon cartoon “Tale Spin” After that I made the wide legged pants, the shirt and the A line skirt. I seldom make clothes that look identical to the pictorials but these screamed to be made exactly as shown. And all three have been well-worn over the past couple years.

I love the long skirt and even though the pattern doesn’t appear to be here that would be easy enough to make and I really like the trousers. I really like the styling and I like the shirt shown in the first photograph but alas there is no pattern for that either. Oh well that is how it goes sometimes

Lambskin Jacket 10/2010 #106 – the skirt that the model is wearing with this jacket; is this a Burda pattern, and if yes, which is it, please? I’ve been looking for one exactly like this to make as my main Christmas piece. Hope someone can help!

October 2010 has some really great patterns in it, its worth tracking down an old back issue for. Here are some of my picks from that edition: http://veryvintagevixen.wordpress.com/2013/08/30/burda-style-october-2010/

The mens jacket, jumpsuit and leather jacket are on my list!

The Katherine Hepburn trousers are the best. I made a pair like them just late summer.

Is there a way we could buy an entire set of the collection at a discount (like they are when they’re bundled together in the magazine)? I love all of these but just can’t afford to purchase them all individually. Definitely on my wish list though. . .
