A couple weeks ago I published which pattern I was going to sew for my next Meg’s Magazine Mash Up. For each Mash Up I usually prepare an inspiration board otherwise known as a moodbard. It helps me brainstorm and gain insight into the style of my garment I am preparing on making. Moodboards really help me focus in and compile inspirational images together that aid my new garment design. Check out our new Moodboard course so you can create your own!
In fashion school we did extensive research and made moodboards for every garment and fashion line we designed then created. I have a pile of inspirational magazine tears and a folder on my computer where I gather images that inspire me. When I need to design and make a garment I turn to those pictures and create a board that I want the style and feeling of my garment to have.
tiling together my drawstring shorts pattern, ready for my pattern style alterations and cutting out my fabric!
For my fashion athletic shorts I wanted to capture the style of an athletic style infused with street fashion. I inserted the silk fabric swatches that I plan on using and images together that showcase the style of the design. I love creating moodboards, they are so much fun and allow me to be creative and helps in my sketching process when designing ad modifying patterns. They dictate the end use of the garment, the fabric, and the silhouette.
Register for the course here, starts Thursday July 31st!
