Do you have to buy the book, and watch the video? My computer is having problems with watching video’s, and I miss it; but can’t seem to get it straightened out? Now, my main question is: You give a selection of 4-5 designs to choose from on the main page, with a link to others. Which do we choose from? Does our selection come from those from the main page, or can we select from those with the links? I already have a couple of the patterns, thought I would use one of them. I have several books, not necessarily Burda, that I can refer too, but really don’t need another book. Also, another question, do you have to use C&C thread? I use several kinds of thread, and already have some items made, that I thought I would select from, to submit?

Thanks for asking Melanie! Choose a pattern from one of three sources: IndygoJunction.com, the Vintage Notions book, or from the free vintage ePatterns Indygo Junction has provided. You can go to this page to see all the options: http://www.indygojunction.com/about/vintage-modern-design-challenge/ You do not have to use C&C thread.

I just want to clarify about following patterns. Am I allowed to modify these patterns such as removing sleeves or adding length, pockets, and many more. Let me know what we can and cannot to do with the patterns. Thank you

You can do anything to the patterns! Keep in mind that the overall winner will have the chance to publish their design through Indygo Junction, so if you’re using an IJ pattern, you’ll probably want to make it different enough from the original to be its own design. Does that help?

Looks like fun, will try , seeing as all countries can enter. Wish the sewing machine was an option, but I can understand it might be come a logistical nightmare.

I got one of the free patterns. I printed the instructions but I wonder if I have to make the pattern at the size in the instructions or I can make it in any size?

It’s all about changing the original design to make a new look, so make it any size you want!

When I select one of the items among the options, should I pay the shown price for the selected item or it is free for the contest participation?

The four vintage ePatterns at the bottom of this page are free: http://www.indygojunction.com/about/vintage-modern-design-challenge/ Alternatively, you can purchase any Indygo Junction pattern or the Vintage Notions Book (which has 12 patterns throughout the chapters).

thanks Julia found the blog! Also its too bad the outside US cannot get that mean machine, but Singer Distributors are worldwide – so what is the issue? I remember being given my first Singer almost like that one but with the wooden base, heavy but actually a favoured model even in Africa and India. I agree with acspencer..not fair!

Unfortunately, special regulation prohibits us from offering the sewing machines internationally. However, the international prize money is equal to the value of the machine.
We look forward to seeing your submissions!

Too bad we can’t qualify for that machine in Canada – I have a black vintage Singer and would love to add the new mod one to my sewing room!
