As creator of the Vintage-Inspired Modern Style Design Challenge, I have been thrilled with the participation and feedback from the BurdaStyle community!
From my guest blogs about Mary Brooks Picken, Singer, and Coats & Clark, to the craftsmanship seen throughout the Challenge entries, it is clear that vintage style is a vibrant source of inspiration for modern sewing enthusiasts. Thanks to all who participated for sharing your own vintage-inspired modern style/ I hope you were also inspired by each others creativity.
The “BurdaStyle Community Choice” First Place Winner is Slip On Dress by yearling.

The “BurdaStyle Community Choice” Runner Up is Stop the Presses Jacket by nancy2001.

With so many fantastic entries for the Vintage-Inspired Modern Style Design Challenge, it was quite a task to pick just one sponsor’s choice winner! But after much deliberation, I’d like to congratulate….
A Patchy Bias Dress by Justine Abbitt!

Even though there could only be one sponsor’s choice winner, SINGER, Coats & Clark, and I had many favorites. Here are a few designs that we especially admired, and the original patterns they came from:
Amy’s Bag by awcdancer, made from the The Metropolitan Indygo Junction pattern.

Sunny Day Dress by Donna Dill, made from the Indygo Junction pattern All Day Apron

Summer Purse by stephielou, made from the “Summer Purse” pattern in the Vintage Notions book

Raina’s Pretty Pink Dress by celisem, made from the “Practical Nightgown” pattern in the Vintage Notions book

And, the Drawing Room Coat by dupcodeb, made from the Indygo Junction pattern Trench Topper

It looks like that no one wins who sew outfit from free pattern… Obviously, the judges look at people who buying and using the cost patterns.

Congratulations to the winners. This was a great challenge and I was excited about the subject and the level of design inspired by the contest’s parameters. Loved the little girl’s dress. Can’t wait for the next one!

Congratulations to the winners! I just have to say I was very dissapointed in the judging process. To have such impressive sponsors, the contest seemed very unprofessional! I never was able to even find my entry! I searched and searched so no one could even vote for me! I am not a sore loser but was very excited then let down over this. I worked hard and got my entry in ,in a timely manner, and really expected the same in return!

I thoroughly enjoyed watching this contest. I carefully went through the gallery entries (couldn’t we do this a little easier?), and admired everyone’ s efforts and craftsmanship. Congratulations to the winners, and to those who were recognized. Finally, every person who entered added so much to MY sewing inspiration. Thank you!

Hi Ellen – There was to be a US OR an International winner chosen for both the community winner and the sponsor’s choice. Thanks for asking!

Congratulations to the winners, there is so much talent in the world. I took the time to look at every entry and was very impressed with all.. Sad though that I didn’t get to put my own in but time was not on my side and not yet up to scratch with uploading things on the net. Maybe one day. Anyhoot Congrats to the winners..
