I’ve often been stumped by the range of types of sewing machine needles. I can understand the basics, but honestly, I don’t know enough to really make the most of them. So I was very excited to see a new article on CraftStylish called, “Demystifying the Machine Sewing Needle with Some Facts.”The post is a great run down of the specific parts of a machine sewing needle. The good news is, they’ll be demystifying needles even more – this one’s a series!

Yes, needles are a very important part of sewing well, beacause the wrong needle can ruin your whole sewing project. My sewing and patternmaking professor told us all about needles and the importance of, above all, learning new sewing trick and techniques and investigating new stuff. Once, I tried to sew a cotton knit in my regular sewing machine, and the thread didn’t penetrate enough so the seams were undone. Now I know that happened because I had a regular needle, and I needed a ballpoing needle to sew a knit! The more you experience and investigate, the more you learn and the better you become!
