I would use it to tackle the piles of gorgeous Harris tweed I’ve been amassing over the last while… I speak Gaelic and work with local community groups trying to help revive this endangered language. I’ve got an idea for making a quilt-style banner, raising awareness about the language’s plight, using Harris tweed. It seems appropriate that it should use a fabric made in one of the last strongholds of the language.

I would love to have an advanced machine like this. It would open so many more possibilities. I have a basic Brother now, and have been pretty happy with it. I would definitely get into some more things like maybe some quilting, and oh yes, a pretty feminine smock type top in gauze with lots of little buttons.

I would love to attempt a fully lined winter coat – I’m sure this machine would give it a million times more of a professional finish. It would also be great to have a machine that doesn’t refuse point blank to accept a twin needle, or constantly skip stitches on knits :)

I would be making my son’s pants and shirts. I would try my hand at winter clothing and coveralls. It is hard to find good patterns for men and boys, but I have been at this for about 20 years…love it!

I am crazy about cute chic trousers, so I would use this machine to make the coolest, pleated, tapered 5/8 trousers with interesting stitches on the pockets and hem finishes. Home made Audrey Hepburn style!

If I won this machine, I would actually give it to my Sister-in-law. Her machine recently became unrepairable and her daughter has decided to start doing Pageants. This would be of great benefit for her to do pageant dresses on.

I’ve been using the lowest-end, most basic, Brother machine since I bought it in the early 90s. I keep hoping it’ll break so I can upgrade, but so far, it’s heartbreakingly reliable. A new, fancy Brother would be dreamy. I imagine I wouldn’t stop sewing – maybe I’d finally make the matching dresses for my daughter and her doll.

I would make a black gored skirt with four zippers – two in the front and two in the back – that allow you to add extra flare. It’s an idea that’s a little bit inspired by a skirt from the Alexander McQueen FW2011 collection.
