These new patterns are full of summery fun and screaming to be cut out from patchwork madras, bright silky prints and beachy bright linens— read on and check them out…
Here we go:

Madras: Madras is a lightweight cotton fabric with a typically patterned or quilted texture and plaid design, often seen as a preppy or nautical look. Because of the textured nature of madras, this material works very well as bottoms: Flared Trousers, Short-Shorts and Short-Shorts w/ties. Can’t find madras? Look for cotton patchwork or plaid shirting.

Cotton Eyelet: Cotton eyelet is like lace’s less expensive little cousin. It’s airy and has a vintage feel, and you can have fun layering eyelet over a bathing suit, or lining it with a contrasting color. For summer, eyelet would work wonders for: A Crop Top, a beachy A-Line Dress or as a Beach Pullover.

Prints: I love a printed silk charmeuse or cotton lawn (like Liberty of London). These vibrant fabrics can really make s simple pattern pop. I see a bold floral translating beautifully in a Gathered V-Neck Dress, and the Twist Dress.

Linen: Linen is a very summery textile and comes in a few different weaves. There’s linen mesh, which has a looser weave and is great for beach pullovers and table cloths, and metallic linen makes for a great dress, the polka dot linen is printed linen gauze. Try linen in shirt or dress patterns like this Casual Buttondown, or our Buttondown Dress.

I’m not a huge madras fan (bad memories of Jr High!) but I LOVE linen! Now that it’s finally, finally getting warm here in Northern Calif I can start thinking about some summer pieces to add to my wardrobe. Those cotton eyelets are really cute too—I love the colors.

Heh, the mass of ladies who complained about the potato-sackiness of the recent plus size patterns should take a look at these .-). Some of them are very nice but there’s not a lot of waist definition, is there.
I do love some of the fabrics though, the cotton eyelet (a new encounter for me, thank you!), the flowers and the orange dots. And the shorts teamed with the shirt in thin, white linen could be a real summer favourite.

Sitting here in Melbourne Australia, shivering… wishing I had a use for these patterns right now! I wonder if the twist bubble dress would work in a warm knit, with leggings. hmm..

I agree about the Melbourne weather, so I don’t see why you could do these patterns in a heavyer fabric and worn with some of the fabulous printed tights

How unfair of you to post all these great inspiration pictures before the magazine is released! I have to wait almost a week to get my hands on the magazine!

I sourced these at B&J Fabrics. Search “patchwork cotton” and “madras” for different types.
