Runway to Reality with Brother: Meg's Look

Introducing our first look reveal for our Runway to Reality look book with Brother! The look book will be available at the beginning of April, and leading up to the launch we are debuting the looks along with our prep work. The sewing tutorial images with Brother machines will be in the look book so you can easily follow along and sew these looks yourself from New York Fashion Week. This first post is my look, so read on to see how I transformed our Long Sleeve Sheath Dress into a dress inspired by this look from the Proenza Schouler show.

Sew the Trends of New York Fashion Week

Another New York Fashion Week has come and gone, leaving us with a slew of old and new trends to look forward to sewing this year. Technically, these collections are for fall 2016 but we couldn’t help but notice that many of the pieces presented were springy in nature from skin-baring cocktail dresses to flowing off the shoulder tops that were ever-present this past summer. We can easily chalk this up to global warming or embrace that designers are coming to terms with a demanding customer base that want to shop the latest runway looks immediately rather than waiting six months.

Take a look at the top 10 trends we saw grace the New York runways and that we can’t wait to start making!

Buy or Make: Cape & Wrap Jacket Edition

It’s been said that every year when the leaves change colors and the air gets crisp it’s like a rebirth for us all. Well…we like to think it is, at least for our closets! This fall we can’t wait to sew up a cape. They are so cozy, chic and fun to wear. It can also be a very versatile piece, especially when you get to make it yourself! Lose the sleeves, add a belt, incorporate illusion sleeves, the options are nearly endless!

We’ve chosen a few of our designer cape favorites and paired them with look-a-like BurdaStyle patterns so that you can get the look for way less! Now, we know that you are probably not purchasing $3,000 capes and believe us, we aren’t either! But we love fashion and it’s fun to look at those out-of-reach items and imagine how we can at least look like our outfit cost as much as our car. Fashion is fun, so have a little fun with it!

Buy or Make: Floral Jumpsuit Edition

There’s no denying that jumpsuits are hot on the scene right now. Celebrities including Jaime King, Blake Lively and Rhianna have all been known to sport this trendy number – on and off the red carpet. Jumpsuits are a perfect alternative when you’ve over-worn all your summer dresses and are looking for something as equally chic and comfortable to wear.

Want to take the style factor up another notch from just your average jumpsuit? Make it in a floral print! It adds a carefree, sexy summer feeling to your outfit and floral prints are easily dressed up or down. Pair it with wedges for work, sandals for a shopping trip and strappy heels for a night out with your girlfriends!

We’ve rounded up a few of the floral jumpsuits that we are completely coveting right now but don’t exactly fit into our budget. Lucky for us, we can make it instead of buying it for a heck of a lot cheaper!
