Sew the Trends: London & Milan Fashion Week, Fall '16

As one would imagine, the looks that walked down the runway in London and Milan the past few weeks were much darker and heavier overall than what we saw in New York. Two of the main trends we saw in several shows was the surplus of sequins and velvet, these two fabrics will be mainstays for day and night this year. Things to make now? Bow front blouses, sequin everything, velvet shorts and flowing midi dresses. Things to make later? Dramatic statement capes, monochromatic hounds tooth suits, long sleeve velvet dress and outrageously large coats.

Take a look at the top seven trends we saw walk the London and Milan runways and that we can’t wait to start making now and later!

Runway to Reality with Brother: Meg's Look

Introducing our first look reveal for our Runway to Reality look book with Brother! The look book will be available at the beginning of April, and leading up to the launch we are debuting the looks along with our prep work. The sewing tutorial images with Brother machines will be in the look book so you can easily follow along and sew these looks yourself from New York Fashion Week. This first post is my look, so read on to see how I transformed our Long Sleeve Sheath Dress into a dress inspired by this look from the Proenza Schouler show.

Sew the Trends of New York Fashion Week

Another New York Fashion Week has come and gone, leaving us with a slew of old and new trends to look forward to sewing this year. Technically, these collections are for fall 2016 but we couldn’t help but notice that many of the pieces presented were springy in nature from skin-baring cocktail dresses to flowing off the shoulder tops that were ever-present this past summer. We can easily chalk this up to global warming or embrace that designers are coming to terms with a demanding customer base that want to shop the latest runway looks immediately rather than waiting six months.

Take a look at the top 10 trends we saw grace the New York runways and that we can’t wait to start making!

It’s been said that every year when the leaves change colors and the air gets crisp it’s like a rebirth for us all. Well…we like to think it is, at least for our closets! Lose the sleeves, add a belt, incorporate illusion sleeves, the options are nearly endless!

We’ve chosen a few of our designer cape favorites and paired them with look-a-like BurdaStyle patterns so that you can get the look for way less! Now, we know that you are probably not purchasing $3,000 capes and believe us, we aren’t either!
