Valentine's Day: Style Guide

Valentine’s Day is tomorrow, and it is not too late to put together a last minute outfit for your plans! Even if you don’t have any plans, lounging around in silky garments and watching movies (and eating chocolate) is a great way to spend the evening… that is what I did last year. This year I have plans, and I’ll show how I plan to style my outfit. I also put together some of my favorite member projects and some free sewing patterns that are very V-Day appropriate.

Men's Ready-to-Wear: Spring 2014

We’ve covered women’s pre-Fall collections from December and January, but we totally skipped Spring 2014 men’s collections. We’re flashing back to our favorite looks for men from June’s runway shows.

Pre-Fall 2014 Collections: Our Favorites, Round 2

Pre-Fall collections took a break for the holidays, but we’re back with more of our favorites from Ralph Lauren, Kenzo, and Tibi.

New Year's Eve: Style Inspiration and Patterns

The holidays are not quite over yet! There is still New Year’s to look forward to. A new year, a new style, a new resolution. I am a big fan of New Year’s Eve as it is a time to play dress up, drink champagne, and take pictures with all your friends. A huge part of New Year’s though is simply asking yourself “What do I wear?” and if your me (or any other sewer) you’ll say “What do I make?”. Check out which pattern I plan on making (I still have a few days!), and some other great dress suggestions.

Styling Christmas Morning: Gifts and Outfits

Make Christmas morning even better with the perfect gifts and outfit!

Menswear Style: Novelty and Edgy

I have never really taken the time to design and make menswear, but I know I have always been interested in it. As a fashion designer and sewer I really appreciate a well dressed man with his own sense style and didn’t just simply purchase an outfit off the mannequin. I’m not talking suit and tie (we all love that in its own way), more like a casual day to day fashion that has some thought and style-sense put into it. Two menswear styles that I love are novelty and edgy. I have altered two of our best selling menswear shirts and made these lovely male models new styles that are far from generic. Check it out!

Holiday Dress Styling

Take a peek at a few of our favorite party dresses, and how to style them, just in time for the holidays!

Get the Look: American Music Awards

Last night I was excited to sit down and watch the American Music Awards. I do love all the music, but really I am always a bit more excited about the fashion. I was one of the millions of people waiting and watching to see what Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus would show up wearing. I was impressed with the demure nature of a lot of the celebs, and I saw a lot of trends and garments that I loved! Check out below to see some looks that I have gathered and how you can make them yourself.

Get Cozy: Styling Oversized Sweaters

Not all trends come at the price of comfort. See how to wear oversized sweaters with preppy, sporty, and bohemian style!

Find a Cape to Suit your Style

Capes and cape-like coats are on trend for Fall 2013. This statement outerwear layer is surprisingly easy to wear… the secret is finding the best style for you!

Halloween Styling: Margot Tenenbaum

Need a last minute sew-it-yourself costume? Dress up as the most glamorous character from The Royal Tenenbaums!

Fall Trend Spotting: Pretty and Punk

Punk had a moment on the Fall 2013 runways, and we’re trying out the trend. Versace sent out low slung leather pants, Chanel put models in knee-high leather boots, and a green-haired teen went top model. See our picks for getting a high fashion punk look!

Designer Pattern: Alessia Giacobino Blouse and Skirt

This new designer pattern from burda style magazine’s November 2013 issue is fluid in silhouette and classic in style. The best part about this designer pattern by Alessia Giacobino is that both the blouse and skirt pieces are included, it’s like you are getting two patterns in one!
