Meet the Designer: Emili Adamé

Emilikedsmain_medium

I started making handmade, high-end gem jewelry in late 2007, early 2008. I was bored, working for an energy company and feeling like this couldn’t be where I was going to end up. I knew that there was something more in store for me.

I have always been creative. My mother says that as a child I would stay up until all hours of the night and into the morning creating, cutting, pasting, drawing, sewing and painting – which got me in trouble more than not seeing that it was 3:00 am and I had school the next day. I would create everything from paper dolls to greeting cards, I never limited myself on my creations, the sky was the limit and I believe it still is.

Do Your Clothes Fit You?

Clothes_fit_blog_medium

Whether homemade or store bought, do clothes tend to fit you well? If you’re like me, chances are you’ve had countless occasions in life where you’ve fallen in love with a gorgeous dress only to find that the fit is totally off. Or you’ve excitedly cut into your precious cloth with a sewing pattern you adore only to find there’s no way in the world the design is ever going to fit. That’s why we sew, I gather, to try to achieve perfection in fit and style, but there will always be those alterations which need to be done in order to achieve that close-to-perfect (if not flawless) fit. But there’s hope! Read on…

Color Moves: Art and Fashion by Sonia Delaunay

Sonia_delaunay_blog_image_medium

Whether you are or are not familiar with artist Sonia Delaunay (November 14, 1885 – December 5, 1979), you are in for a treat. A forerunner of the Orphism Movement, Delaunay’s body of work spans from paintings in bright, bold Cubist colors to textile and set design. Thanks to the Smithsonian Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum, who recently housed a Delaunay exhibit, we can show those who can’t come to New York City an insider’s view of the retrospective!
